SHOPIFY PRIVACY & COMPLIANCE APP

Goal

Update design and content for Shopify’s Privacy & Compliance app, which lets merchants add privacy controls to their website including a cookie content banner and CCPA opt-out page.

Process

I conducted a series of A/B tests for the cookie consent banner content, resulting in a 20% lift in consent rate. I also created UX principals, a competitive audit, privacy terminology, and help documentation. The banner default copy was updated with transparent language to build help merchants build trust with their customers. A new preferences page was added to give customers more control over their data and help merchants stay on the right side of GDPR regulations. For this project, I worked very closely with legal to help ensure that the app aligned with global compliance standards.

Impact

The updated app launched in April 2023, providing merchants with increased customization and compliance options that are easy to use and understand.
